LOLER stands for Lifting Operation and Lifting Equipments Regulations was set in 1998 by the Health and Safety Executive on the 5th December 1998. LOLER 1998 has replaced the Manual Handling Regulations 1994, this is done to encourage people to use lifting equipments and machines instead of handling items manually.
LOLER regulations applies to all places of work where lifting or lowering of loads is done with the help of using lifting equipments or machines.Work equipment means any machine, appliance, apparatus, tool or installation used for lifting or lowering load needs LOLER inspections.
LOLER testing must be carried out before installation of equipment on the site and after installation to confirm that the equipment is correctly installed. If the machinery is not taken into use from very long period then before starting reusing that machinery LOLER testing should be done. Rest after every six month LOLER testing should be done on lifting equipments that is used in lifting/lowering of persons e.g. Passenger lifts, window cleaning equipment.
